A predicted E2.2bn ($3.3bn) funding shortfall for German hospitals in 2008 is nothing short of a catastrophe and will inevitably mean the loss of more healthcare jobs. So said the German hospitals federation (DKG), in initial reactions to projections made by the Rheinland-Westphalia economic research institute (RWI). A report, published last month by RWI, painted a grim picture for German inpatient healthcare in 2008 and 2009.
