Brazilian medical technology manufacturers are trumpeting a 14% increase in the value of their exports in 2007 as a cause for great celebration. The health ministry, however, has poured cold water on the figures, warning of the need to stem the healthcare system's growing medical supplies deficit - thought to be in the order of US$6bn, of which medtech could account for half.
