Executive Summary
Scotland today announced that its four neurosurgery centres are to be retained as the basis of a strategy to modernise the service. Present arrangements for paediatric neurosurgery services, in particular, will be maintained at the Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow centres, the Scottish Executive has highlighted. The decision is in line with the recommendations of the group set up in 2006 to advise the government on the development of a "managed service network". The Neuroscience Implementation Group is to remain active for an extra six months, with a view to developing a national service model.
