The Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration has approved Imaging Diagnostic Systems' (IDS) CT laser mammography (CTLM) system. It will be distributed in Australia by Jainsons. The CTLM is a noninvasive breast imaging system that uses continuous wave laser technology and patented algorithms to produce 3D images of the breast. It can provide information about blood distribution and new blood vessel formation that is often associated with cancer, and is designed to be used in conjunction with conventional mammography. The device is CE marked for sale in Europe and is approved in Canada. It is not yet available in the US, where IDS (Fort Lauderdale, Florida) is currently carrying out the clinical studies required for a premarket approval (PMA) application.
