Scotland has completed the roll-out of its bowel screening programme, which has been phased in over two-and-a-half years. The programme will invite annually more than 700,000 people aged 50-74 years to take part. The initial screening involves taking a faecal occult blood test (FOBT) sample at home and posting it for laboratory testing. The programme aims to save an estimated 150 lives annually. Some 3,400 people in Scotland are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year.
