UK progresses prion detection and decontamination

The UK's Department of Health (DH) has published a progress report on the programme of the Working Group for Research into the Decontamination of Surgical Instruments (DECON). The programme was set up by the DH specifically to address the risks of iatrogenic transmission of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs), and the 108-page report details developments in protein detection technologies and device coatings, as well as decontamination techniques and policy.
