This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is calling on hospitals to replace conventional radiotherapy with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) as the standard form of treatment of cancers of the head and neck. Citing the results of research presented today at the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Conference, in Birmingham, it highlighted the "more accurate targeting [by IMRT] of effective radiotherapy doses to the tumour, while reducing damage to healthy organs".
