Ireland makes e-health inroads with patient identifier report

Executive Summary
Ireland came a step closer to deploying its e-health plans yesterday, with the publication of recommendations on the introduction of the "unique health identifier" (UHI). The report produced by the Health Information & Quality Authority (HIQA) for the department of health is seen as making an "important contribution" to the development of both the UHI and the electronic health records (EHR) system, which will be at the heart of a wider programme to modernise Irish healthcare.
