Brazilian medtech imports totalled US$2.47bn in 2007, up 27% on US$1.94bn in 2006, and expectations are for continued growth of 15-20% in 2008. These are among market data just posted by the leading medtech importers association, Abimed, profiling the activity of its 119 members. Surgical instrumentation constituted the largest (17%) among 12 leading healthcare segments, almost matched by imaging diagnostics (16%) and laboratory supplies (13%). By product type, equipment accounted for 37.6%, consumables 31.5%, implants 18.8% and "diagnostic kits" 12.1%.
