St Jude Medical has grown its cardiac rhythm management manufacturing capabilities after the FDA approved a new 150,000 square-foot facility in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. The site will initially focus on the manufacturing of pacemakers and cardiac leads for the domestic and international markets – implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) will be added to its output later on this year. The firm’s other site in Puerto Rico (located in Caguas) is set to add other unspecified products to its current production line of mechanical heart valves and the Angio-Seal vascular closure devices. St Jude has also recently expanded its manufacturing sites in Sylmar, California and Liberty, South Carolina, and is currently increasing the size of its headquarters in St Paul, Minnesota.
