Varian to help develop proton therapy facility in San Francisco

Varian Medical Systems is set to provide its proton beam radiation therapy equipment to a new cancer treatment facility in Northern California. Varian (Palo Alto, California) will offer its technology for inclusion into a planned three-room treatment centre, which has been proposed by radiosurgery specialist American Shared Hospital Services (AMS). According to San Francisco, California-based AMS, the new facility is expected to be operational by 2011. Financial details of the deal were not revealed.
