When the economy went into free fall in 2008, the number of merger and acquisition transactions across most of the major industry sectors also took a nose dive. The medtech space, at first blush, appeared to have maintained its dynamism, with similar levels of M&A activity in 2008 as it did the previous year. A closer look at the shopping trends, however, suggests that medtech companies may be starting to feel the bite of the credit crunch after all.
