Executive Summary
The US FDA has granted 510(k) clearance for Intel's Health Guide, a care management tool for the home monitoring of patients with chronic conditions. Intel plans to launch the system in the US and UK in late 2008 or early in 2009. The Santa Clara, California-based firm, better known for its computer chip business, says the Health Guide enables caregivers to give patients more personalised care, and move treatment for chronic disease outside the hospital and into the home. The product integrates vital signs collection, patient reminders, multimedia educational content and feedback and communication tools, such as email. It can connect to specific wired and wireless medical devices, including blood pressure and glucose monitors.
