LeMaitre Vascular has acquired seven-year exclusive rights to distribute a line of biocompatible, biological vascular strips developed by Canadian specialty vascular device company Neovasc. LeMaitre, of Burlington, Massachusetts, will market the strips for a range of vascular surgery applications, including carotid endarterectomy, the removal of plaque from the carotid artery. The material is derived from bovine pericardial tissue and features "exceptional" strength and handling characteristics, said Neovasc. The agreement also provides an option for LeMaitre to buy, after five years, the vascular strip technology for use in vascular surgery only. Neovasc would retain the rights to the technology for all other applications. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
