Zimmer set to gain Abbott Spine in $360m deal

Zimmer is set to bulk up its orthopaedic product offering with the purchase of Abbott Laboratories’ spinal business for $360m. The all-cash transaction will see Zimmer acquire Abbott Spine, a subsidiary which recorded $109m in revenue during fiscal 2007, and gain its range of implantable spinal screws, plates and clamps. Zimmer (Warsaw, Indiana) will retain Abbott Spine’s facilities in Austin, Texas and Bordeaux, France. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2008.
