The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has warned of a funding shortfall of "at least" $4bn to 2010 to achieve goals related primarily to improving access to diagnostics and treatment. The total demand from recipient countries during 2008-10 is said to be over $13.5bn – a figure described as a "realistic" estimate. The warning came as the Global Fund was preparing to approve its ninth funding round.
