UK publishes interim guide for stem cell research and manufacture

Executive Summary

The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has published an interim regulatory route map as a reference tool for those wishing to embark on a programme of stem cell research and manufacture that will ultimately lead to clinical application1. A more detailed, web-based version of the map is currently being developed and will be available by the end of 2009. The interim map has been developed by the Department of Health with the support of the Gene Therapy Advisory Committee, and other relevant UK regulatory bodies.

US warns on endoscopy processing

US healthcare facilities and manufacturers are being warned about the risks to patients if flexible endoscopes and their accessories are not properly processed. Devices industry under scrutiny by US Justice Department

The medical device industry’s compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in the US will come under close scrutiny from the Department of Justice in the months and years ahead, the head of the department’s Criminal Division has warned1. While his remarks were addressed to the pharmaceutical industry, assistant attorney general Lanny Breuer made it clear that they also apply to the medical device industry.
