Crossing occluded arteries with traditional catheters and guidewires is problematic because they tend to buckle, rather than penetrate occlusions. Roxwood Medical Inc. has developed products that incorporate a self-expanding stent-like scaffold that stabilizes guidewires and/or microcatheters in the center of the artery to facilitate access across complex lesions.
