Given all of the anecdotal evidence of venture capital's flight from medical devices, many device company executives have been encouraged recently by the venture financings of Intuitive Surgical Inc. and Cardiac Pathways Corp. At the same time, they are closely watching Aspect Medical Systems and Oratec Interventions, both of which filed for IPO's this summer, to see how receptive the financial markets really are to medical devices.
