GE launches Vscan pocket-sized ultrasound imaging tool

GE Healthcare is positioning its 510(k)-cleared Vscan pocket-sized ultrasound imaging system as a point-of-care tool with the potential to enhance physical exams and allow more rapid diagnoses. Launched Feb. 15, the hand-held device resembles a smart phone and is three inches wide, five inches long and weighs less than a pound. The rechargeable battery is good for an hour of scanning, and the device can link to a PC for organization and export of data, GE says. It lists for $7,900 and is intended for abdominal, cardiac, urological, fetal/OB, pediatric, and thoracic/pleural motion and fluid detection, as well as for patient exams in primary and specialty care areas, according to the company
