CMS should establish national qualification requirements for sonographers to limit misdiagnosis and unnecessary repeat ultrasound procedures, the Government Accountability Office recommends in a June 28 1report. CMS says state licensing bodies are better able to address technician qualification issues than a national policy. Legislation introduced this year in the Senate (S. 1042) by Michael Enzi, R-Wyo., and in the House (H.R. 583) by Mike Doyle, D-Pa., would require national standards for personnel performing all imaging studies...
