CMS and the American Hospital Association (AHA) collaboration will be "a centralized point of contact to provide reliable interpretations of how established codes should be used," the groups announce Jan. 6. AHA will manage the clearinghouse, with the help of CMS and other healthcare stakeholders. Anyone can submit HCPCS questions, and quarterly publications will also be available to assist providers in coding. CMS and AHA suggest that due to the growing use of HCPCS codes for billing and payment, hospitals and healthcare professionals increasingly need advice in the area.
