Wheelchair legislation?

Reps. Jim Langevin (D-R.I.) and Charlie Bass (R-N.H.) urge HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt in a May 12 "Dear Colleague" letter to modify CMS' "in-the-home" criterion for power wheelchairs through the regulatory process. If Leavitt finds CMS does not have the authority to remove the requirement, the letter requests him to respond "as quickly as possible, so that Congress can begin examining legislative alternatives." Wheelchair advocates believe Medicare beneficiaries should qualify for power wheelchair use outside of the home (1"The Gray Sheet" Feb. 28, 2005, p. 34)...
