Senate HELP Chair Michael Enzi?

Wyoming Republican is in line to chair the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee if current Chair Judd Gregg (R-N.H.) replaces Senate Budget Committee Chair Don Nickles (R-Okla.). Last October, Nickles announced he would retire at the end of 2004. Hill staffers speculate Gregg may be tapped by Republican leadership to fill Nickles' post after the November elections. If Sen. Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) remains Senate Majority Leader next term, then Enzi - who claims the longest period of uninterrupted service on the HELP Committee - would be its new chairman.
