Senate unanimously passes "Community Access to Emergency Defibrillation Act" (S 1275) and "Stroke Treatment and Ongoing Prevention Act" (S 1274) Feb. 7. The bills were co-sponsored by Sens. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) and introduced in July 2001. The STOP Act establishes a national public education campaign about stroke risk factors, provides states with funding to ensure appropriate care, and offers training programs for medical personnel.
