"Medicare Insulin Coverage Act of 1998" (HR 3814), introduced by Rep. Thomas Ewing (R-Ill.) May 7, provides for Medicare coverage of insulin pumps as durable medical equipment. Individuals with Type I diabetes "experiencing severe swings of high and low blood glucose levels" who have "successfully completed a training program that meets" standards set by the Health Care Financing Administration or who have used a pump "without interruption for at least 18 months immediately before enrollment" under part B would be covered...
