U.S. Surgical: MIBB breast biopsy instrumentation system will be launched in the first quarter of 1998 following 510(k) clearance, the company announces Dec. 11. Formerly called the PERC ABBI ("The Gray Sheet" Sept. 22, I&W-1), the "needle-like" radiolucent system is designed for use with either USSC's ABBI biopsy instrument and a sterotactic table made by Trex Medical's Lorad unit (x-rays), or with USSC's Sonopsy three-dimensional ultrasound system. While the ABBI alone can remove tissue samples ranging from 5 mm to 20 mm in diameter, the MIBB system allows removal of samples "as small as 2 mm in diameter," USSC claims...
