Slade Gorton (R-Wash.) and John Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) and the White House to discuss a compromise on product liability legislation is expected to take place the week of Nov. 3. Compromise language negotiated by Rockefeller with the White House in September ("The Gray Sheet" Sept. 29, In Brief) reportedly has not been accepted by Republicans. In an Oct. 29 letter to President Clinton, 13 consumer organizations claim the legislation agreed to by Rockefeller and the White House would "have a catastrophic impact on millions of Americans"...

Study Says FDA Waited Too Long To Ban Pelvic Mesh For POP Repairs

Roughly 18.5% of patients who received reinterventions to fix mesh implants for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) repair experienced complications they will likely endure for the rest of their lives, and they also face a 2.5% higher rate of further surgeries than non-mesh patients, says a recent 54,194-woman study detailed in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
