Guidant: Introduces the Model 2901 programmer-recorder-monitor, a smaller, portable version of its Model 2950 PRM system, used to program Guidant's latest generation pacemakers and defibrillators. The Model 2901 is approximately 70% smaller and 60% lighter than the 2950, but incorporates all of the larger system's "features and functionality," Guidant says. Separately, Guidant announces European market launch of its Ventak AV ICD. The device incorporates an Atrial View feature that "collects information from the heart's atrium...for use in the device's arrhythmia treatment algorithms," the company says.
