Mitokor: San Diego-based company completes a $10.6 mil. venture capital financing. Investors include Alta Partners, Sofinnova, Sorrento Ventures, Peter Preuss, El Dorado Ventures, MDS Health Ventures and Donovan Investment. The biotech company, formerly known as Applied Genetics, focuses on identifying the role of mitochondrial DNA in degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and diabetes. Mitokor says it is "completing development" of a blood-based diagnostic assay for Alzheimer's.
