Executive Summary
DEVICE IMPLANT/EXPLANT DATA MANAGEMENT FACILITY is the centerpiece of a proposal for a voluntary National Implant Data Retrieval and Analysis (NIDRA) system under development by the Society for Biomaterials. A newly created Data Analysis and Device Management Center (DADMC) would house the hardware, software, and files needed for a "publicly accessible relational database" of statistics and information related to the implantation and explantation of medical devices, according to a proposal for the NIDRA system presented Oct. 24 at a Gorham/Intertech Consulting conference on biomaterials in Vienna, Virginia.
