Executive Summary
University of Michigan researchers find "no statistically significant association between silicone breast implants and scleroderma" and also "no association between any contact with silicone and scleroderma," Dow-Corning says. The company-sponsored study examined 377 Michigan women diagnosed with scleroderma between 1980 and 1991. The cases represent 83% of scleroderma patients in the state during that period. The study also includes 1,184 Michigan women in a control group. Of the 16 women in the unpublished study who had breast implants, two also had scleroderma.
