Executive Summary
Canada's Ministry of Health and Welfare revokes silicone breast implant manufacturers' "notices of compliance," which technically allow firms to sell the implants in Canada. "Should manufacturers wish to market silicone [breast] implants [in Canada], they will have to undertake and fund clinical studies which will be strictly reviewed by [MHW] and an outside advisory committee," the Ministry states in a press release. The implants will be made available to patients on an individual basis "in exceptional circumstance[s]" following requests by physicians, MHW says.
